Taking Turns - Parent 1

Basic

Home

Your student is participating in classroom activities helping them learn how to take turns during an activity or conversation. We would love for you to keep the discussion going at home!

Definition: Turn taking means waiting for your turn to go during a game or sharing ideas with classmates or friends.

Here are just a few ideas to help get the conversation started:

  • You should wait until it is your turn in a game/activity.
  • You should wait until it is your turn to speak. Stress that one person speaks at a time.
  • Taking turns is important in relationships and communication. Share how you take turns in activities or in conversations with others, be specific.

Activity

Draw a picture of a time you need to take turns at home. After, talk to your child about the situation they drew. Have them explain if the situation was an activity or a conversation and what actions/words they used to take turns.
