Generating Topics - Parent 2

Foundational

Home

Your child is participating in classroom activities focused on learning the importance of generating topics when talking with someone.

Definition: Topics are subjects that we discuss with others when we are having a conversation. The topics can be based on our own interests and ideas or on those offered by a conversation partner during an exchange.

We would love for you to keep the discussion going at home! Here are just a few ideas to help get the conversation started:

  • Why do we need to vary the topics that we discuss?
  • What would happen if we discussed the same topics repeatedly?
  • How do you respond to a person who says the same thing or discusses the same topic over and over again?
  • Why should we try to listen to people who are talking about unfamiliar topics with us?

Activity

Make a list of five topics you are unfamiliar with that others in your family like to talk about.
