Your student is participating in classroom activities helping them learn the meaning of empathy. We would love for you to keep the discussion going at home!

Definition: Empathy is the ability to understand and share feelings of another person. Empathy means you try to understand how someone is feeling and you try to see a situation from their point of view.

Here a just a few ideas to help get the conversation started:

  • How can you show empathy to someone who is scared, sad, lonely?
  • What does it mean to put yourself in someone else’s shoes?
  • Share your own situations when you were empathetic.

Activity

Draw a picture or write about a time you showed empathy to a friend or family member. After, talk to your child about the situation they drew and different ways they can show empathy for others.
