Diversity - Parents 1

Basic

Home

Your student is participating in classroom activities helping them learn the meaning of diversity. We would love for you to keep the discussion going at home! The definition your child was given for diversity follows with a just a few ideas to help get the conversation started:

Definition: Diversity means differences; people may be different in many ways, including physical appearance, favorite foods, where you live (house, apartment), race or ethnicity, age, disabilities, language, culture, appearance, or religion.

  • Think about your neighborhood. How are your neighbors different from your family? How are they similar to your family?
  • Learn about different cultures by making food from other countries, listening to music from other countries or visiting a restaurant that serves authentic food from other countries.
  • Use M&M’s to show that different colors on the outside does not affect the quality of what’s inside.

Activity

Draw or attach pictures that show how your family is unique. Never forget, being you makes the world a more interesting place! Discuss the picture after it is drawn.
