Handling Disagreements - Parent 2
Foundational
Home
Your child is participating in classroom activities focused on learning how to disagree politely and respectfully with others. We have learned about listening to another’s point of view, asking a clarifying question, and using respectful language to disagree.
Definitions: Disagreeing means to have a different feeling or opinion about a topic or item than someone else. It means you think or feel differently than others.
We would love for you to keep the discussion going at home! Here are just a few ideas to help get the conversation started:
- What does it mean to disagree?
- Is it okay to disagree?
- What are the consequences of disagreeing?
- Can you disagree with a friend and still be friends?
- How do you disagree respectfully and politely?
Activity
Brainstorm with your child the following: situations at home when they may disagree with someone. Discuss how similar disagreements may have been handled in the past and how they might be handled differently going forward.
