Recognizing Strengths - Parent 1

Home

Your student is participating in classroom activities helping them learn how to identify their strengths. We would love for you to keep the discussion going at home!

Definition: A character strength is something that a person is good at. A strength is usually an activity or task that a person likes to do.

Here are just a few ideas to help get the conversation started:

  • Ask your child what character strengths they learned about.
  • Discuss and share your own strengths and the strengths you see in others that are close to you (such as grandparents, aunts/uncles, sisters/brothers, neighbors, etc.)
  • Review with your child what they feel are their strongest character strengths. You may have to start the conversation with one or two strengths you see in your child. Be sure to give them examples of how you see that strength in them.
  • Encourage your child to notice character strengths in others. You can also talk about ways they can share that when they see a strength in others.

Activity

Draw or write about how you can use your character strengths to help others. Discuss the picture after it is drawn.
