Handling Disagreements - Parent 2

Home

Your child is participating in classroom activities focused on learning how to disagree politely and respectfully with others. We have learned about listening to another’s point of view, asking a clarifying question, and using respectful language to disagree.

Definitions: Disagreeing means to have a different feeling or opinion about a topic or item than someone else. It means you think or feel differently than others.

We would love for you to keep the discussion going at home! Here are just a few ideas to help get the conversation started:

  • What does it mean to disagree?
  • Is it okay to disagree?
  • What are the consequences of disagreeing?
  • Can you disagree with a friend and still be friends?
  • How do you disagree respectfully and politely?

Activity

Brainstorm with your child the following: situations at home when they may disagree with someone. Discuss how similar disagreements may have been handled in the past and how they might be handled differently going forward.
